In early May 2025, Calton assisted in securing a unanimous decision at Midlothian Council’s Planning Committee for a major new retail development at Asda Retail Parc, Straiton, on behalf of Lansdowne Investments.

The approved scheme comprises two large-format retail units of 20,000 ft² each. Alongside five smaller retail units of 4,000 ft². All are supported by dedicated customer parking and a service delivery yard. The development will regenerate a prominent brownfield site within Straiton’s established commercial hub, delivering significant investment and economic benefit to the wider area.

This successful outcome reflects a strong collaborative effort across the project team. As well as a clear alignment with Midlothian Council’s vision for sustainable, well-located commercial growth. The new retail floorspace will provide greater choice and convenience for shoppers. In addition, it will strengthen the overall offer at Straiton, and further reinforce the location’s role as a key regional retail destination.
