Emily Bates is a chartered town planner and joined Calton Planning and Development in September 2024. She splits her time working between Calton Planning and NJL Planning + Development, an affiliate of Calton Planning, where she has worked since September 2021. She brings extensive experience in residential and commercial developments across England and has recently expanded her expertise to include the Scottish planning system. With a strong ability to balance developer needs with a deep understanding of planning policy, Emily consistently goes the extra mile to secure positive client outcomes.

Emily completed the 4-year MPlan Town and Regional Planning degree at the University of Liverpool, which also included time spent as a planning assistant at a town planning consultancy during her third year.
Passionate about broadening her skill set, Emily has dedicated much of her time to voluntary work and self-development over the last few years. While at university, she joined the RTPI’s Young Planners Network, volunteered at the Urbanist Platform, and worked with Place Education to help expose students to a career in planning at an earlier age. She was also awarded the Regional North West ‘Women in Property 2020’ Student Award and the University of Liverpool’s Anderson Medal for planning excellence. More recently, Emily acts as the School’s Outreach Lead for the Central Scotland Women in Property Branch. He has responsibility for developing and implementing the company’s business strategies as well as planning and development matters throughout Scotland and UK-wide.
